Wayne Simkin – Repeat World Champion Carver

Mild-mannered Midland area sales rep Wayne Simkin doesn’t like to boast… so we’d like to do it for him!  In late April 2013 Wayne became a repeat World Champion wildfowl carver.  Wayne took top spot in the “Decorative Life-size Floating Pairs” category at the 43rd Annual Ward World Championship Wildfowl Carving Competition and Art Festival in Ocean City, MD.

2013 MacLaren Art – Sarjeant Design Winners Chosen

A jury of 4 representatives of the Sarjeant Company chose 4 winning designs, one from each of the following schools:

Nantyr Shores Secondary School
Barrie Central Collegiate
Bear Creek Secondary School
St. Joan of Arc High School

These designs will be digitally scanned, printed on large format vinyl, and soon will be wrapped around the drums of four of our concrete mixer trucks. Winning selections are top secret and will be on display at the MacLaren Gallery Thursday, May 2, 7:00 to 9:00 pm.… Read the rest

John O. Elliott, 1931-2012


It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of The Sarjeant Company Chairman, John O. Elliott, who died peacefully on the evening of Tuesday, June 19th.


Friends may visit at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie, from 6-9 p.m. on Friday, June 22, 2012. A private family service will be held at Midhurst Union Cemetery. Condolences may be forwarded through

Concrete Mixer Art – The Sarjeant/MacLaren Design Project

Concrete Mixer Art – The Sarjeant Design Project

The Sarjeant Company, in conjunction with the MacLaren Art Center, commissioned a local artist to visit four local schools and design art for our concrete mixer drums. The Sarjeant Company gave no content criterion, just the suggestion that it incorporate something to do with their school.

Mixer drums are a particularly interesting canvas because they rotate clockwise and counter clockwise and, of course, their industrial purpose and wide audience on the raods of Simcoe-Muskoka. The students work was displayed at the gallery on ingenious rotating cylinders built by Tim, the artistic coordinator. Four winners were selected by a jury of professional artists and Autotrim Barrie produce digital vinyl prints on 4 full sized Sarjeant 9 cubic meter concrete trucks.… Read the rest

Midland Tornado

At approximately 6:15 PM on Wednesday June 23rd a tornado touched down in Midland Ontario. Our plant and cardlock sustained heavy damage. Our concrete plant will almost certainly need to be completely rebuilt. It is our primary concern to ensure this has no adverse effect of our customers.
