MacLaren Art Centre

The Sarjeant Company and the MacLaren Art Centre collaborate for The Sarjeant Design Project.

The MacLaren Art Centre, is a regional public art gallery serving the residents of Barrie, the County of Simcoe and surrounding area. The Gallery has a permanent collection of 26,600 works of art held in trust for the public and presents a year-round program of world-class exhibitions, public art projects, education activities and special events.

In the spring of 2011, The Sarjeant Company, in conjunction with the MacLaren Art Center, launched The Sarjeant Design Project. A local artist was commissioned to visit five local schools and design art with the students for our concrete mixer drums. Designed to foster the creative talents of young people in the Barrie community, Sarjeants enabled The MacLaren to hire regional artist Tim Laurin to lead workshops with 85 high-school students at five Barrie high schools.

Every May, each the designs from the participating students are displayed in the MacLaren’s Molson Community Gallery on an inventive “drum roll” that shows the 360-degree designs off to best effect. Ultimately, three to four designs are selected for transfer to the truck drums and the beginning of this new fleet.

Sarjeants also supports the MacLaren Art Centre through regular Black Tie Gala sponsorships and various other donations.
