Client: Royal Victoria Hospital
Location: Adjacent to RVH, Barrie
Project date: 2009 – 2013
Contractor: Vanbots Construction

Description: Sarjeants supplied over 23,000m3 of various concrete mix designs

The 350,000 sq. foot expansion of the Royal Victoria Hospital includes the Simcoe-Muskoka Regional Cancer Centre. This addition will allow patients to receive comprehensive cancer treatment closer to home. The building will include three radiation treatment suites, two large outpatient clinic areas, a supportive care area, a large chemotherapy suite, and a clinical trial area. The building will be three stories high, and attached to the existing hospital.

Sarjeants will be pouring not only a variety of concrete mixes, but specialty mixes as well. For the radiation treatment rooms a high density concrete mix will be used for the walls and ceilings. For the interior and exterior of the structure a special architectural mix will be used for the exposed view of floors, walls, columns & ceilings.

Vanbots is one of Canada’s largest contracting companies. In late 2008, the company joined Carillion Canada as the industrial, commercial and institutional construction arm in Canada.
