SIMCOE-MUSKOKA REGIONAL CANCER CENTRE
Client: Royal Victoria Hospital
Location: Adjacent to RVH, Barrie
Project date: 2009 – 2013
Contractor: Vanbots Construction
The 350,000 sq. foot expansion of the Royal Victoria Hospital includes the Simcoe-Muskoka Regional Cancer Centre. This addition to this building allows patients to receive comprehensive cancer treatment closer to home. The building will include three radiation treatment suites, two large outpatient clinic areas, a supportive care area, a large chemotherapy suite, and a clinical trial area. The building is three stories high and attached to the existing Royal Victoria Hospital.
Sarjeants not only poured a variety of standard concrete mixes but specialty mixes as well, for a grand total of over 23,000m3. For the radiation treatment rooms, a high-density concrete mix was used for the walls and ceilings. For the interior and exterior of the structure, a special architectural mix was used for the exposed view of floors, walls, columns & ceilings.
Vanbots is one of Canada’s largest contracting companies. In late 2008, the company joined Carillion Canada as the industrial, commercial and institutional construction arm in Canada.
